Charity Shopping: How to find a keeper

…And by keeper I mean that charity shop item that is going to live happily in your wardrobe forever more. One of the many, many wonderful things about charity shopping is that you can find quirky items that you never knew you needed, or you thought it would be impossible to slip some such item into your wardrobe but somehow they work and you love ’em. However, charity shopping is also bloody great because you can find a keeper of an item that is also a classic. An item you would have been prepared to splash out on because you had been searching for a good old while. A few years ago this was the case for me and the denim dress. In 2015, shortly after Alexa Chung had teamed up with AG Jeans and produced all the denim dreams, denim flooded the high-street. Miss Selfridge, Topshop and New Look all had their say and the button-up denim were selling like ahem, hot potatoes. Hot potatoes dressed perfectly in denim! It was during this denim revolution that I walked into Oxfam and saw a little denim peeking out from the maxi dress rail. In true Confessions of a Shopoholic style I ran over and said ‘I will buy this dress and this dress only’. 30 minutes later I was at my house with a pair of scissors ready to cut and fray the hem to make it a more suitable length for short ol’ me. Two years later and it’s still a dress I reach for on many occasions and is one such Oxfam item I know I’ll be wearing in the years to come.
