An Autumn Friendly Charity Shop Outfit

British Charity Shop Blog
Skirt & Top: Oxfam, Boots*: Shoe Zone, Bag: Modalu

Catchy title, ey! On my first charity shopping trip in a while I picked up this kinda khaki skirt which will be perfect for Autumn. As always I have been scouting out all things Autumn in the charity shops about two months to early but what can I say? I just love Autumn. From fashion to fireworks to food, I just love everything about October to December. I think this skirt will be perfect with a roll-neck jumper, winter-worthy tights and rain-proof boots. Last year my winter skirt (which I also wore throughout the summer) was a Jaegar woollen skirt  which I loved a lot, a lot. I think this khaki skirt is going to be my 'go-to' skirt come October. Oof, bring the snow on - I'm ready for ya.

Have you bought any charity shop items lately? If so (and as always), I would love to hear about them :)

A Charity Shop Kimono

Patterned dress (worn as a kimono): Oxfam, Dress: Urban Outfitters (Similar), Bag: Primark (Similar)

Cover-ups are essential for me on holiday. As a gal who gets bitten by mosquitoes more times than I think fair, when heading out for dinner on holiday I always ensure that the majority of my body is covered. This is why this patterned Oxfam dress was perfect on holiday - it is ankle length on me and can be fastened so the mosquitoes knew they weren't welcome! I wore the patterned dress a fair few times on holiday and it doubled up as a dress for evenings and a 'no-efford required' kimono for the beach.

Before heading off on holiday my latest blog post for Oxfam went live. For a good ol' while in the lead up to summer I was looking for a simple plain black waistcoat. I couldn't find one anywhere so I got an old and unloved top and altered it slightly. I can now were it as a waistcoat which is perfect for summers, festivals and all that good stuff.

An (Almost) Entirely Oxfam Outfit: #3

Oxfam Outfit
Oxfam Outfit
Skirt & Shirt: Oxfam, Sunglasses: New Look (Similar), Bag: Primark (Similar

This is the third time recently I have worn an (almost) entirely Oxfam outfit and not realised until I put together a blog post. Must mean that my wardrobe consists of most things thrifted! I picked up this skirt from Oxfam a few weeks before my holiday - it's a Topshop skirt and it still had the labels on! It's a sheer skirt with very short shorts attached - a little risqué for me but I thought I'd take it for a spin in Sri Lanka as it was super duper hot so it was perfect a the lightest cover-up possible.

During my two weeks in Sri Lanka I travelled from east to the north-west. This meant the climate changed slightly (apparently Sri Lanka has separate Monsoon seasons for the north and south!). I did a variety of things from cleaning an elephant to lying on the beach (perhaps for a little too long) to staying in a lovely (albeit, slightly too posh for Hannah) hotel. The lovely hotel was where these pictures were taken - because this hotel was up in the mountain, it was slightly cooler which is possibly why I look super happy in these pictures. I was able to stand outside (unshaded) for 15 minutes and not look like I've just been for a swim. Bliss!

#mydreamvintagedress X Beyond Retro

Dress: Beyond Retro*, Sandals & Necklace: Topshop, Belt: Oxfam

The Tuesday before heading off to Sri Lanka I was invited to Beyond Retro in Dalston to search for my dream vintage dress. It was most definitely a Tuesday morning well spent! It didn't take long to find my dream vintage dress as I think I'm pretty much in love with all the dresses in Beyond Retro. In the end I decided to go with this dress as I felt it would do perfectly as a day and evening dress in Sri Lanka - essential for the packing light requirement (which I may or may not have been successful at...) The dress was also perfectly light for the incredibly hot days which I was only able to cope with by going in the sea approximately every 5 minutes, eating copious amounts of ice cream and saying 'this must be the hottest day EVER' to my boyfriend about 230 times a day.

You could be in with the chance of winning £250 Beyond Retro vouchers (wow-sers) and an overnight stay for you and a friend at The Hoxton, Shoreditch. To enter this oh-so-bloomin-brilliant competition just click here. To see all the beautiful, dreamy vintage dresses you can use the hashing #mydreamvintagedress on Twitter and Instagram!

Charity Shop Denim

Dress & Bag: Oxfam, Sandals: Topshop (Similar), Sunglasses: New Look

I will be forever happy that I found this denim dress in Oxfam. It's the perfect 'no effort required' dress for these lovely summer (albeit, 'slightly too hot for Hannah') days. I bought this denim dress on a Saturday. As soon as I got the dress home, I hacked off some of the length, put the dress on with my dancing shoes and headed out for a night out-out. I always think if you haven't worn an item within two weeks of buying it, chances are you don't love it and it's probably best to take it back to the store (if it is a high-street item). I know I'm on to a good'un when I rip the labels off an item of clothing (as I did with this denim dress) and wear it for the next few (read: eight) days.

I should be in Sri Lanka when this post goes live so I'm hoping as you read this I will be reading books on the beach, swimming in the sea and drinking Pina Coloda's! I hope you've got summer holiday planned whether in be in this country or abroad - make sure you have a good'un :)

Heatwave Friendly Charity Shop Outfit

Charity Shop Outfit
Charity Shop Outfit
Skirt, Top & Bag: Oxfam, Sunglasses: New Look, Shoes: Dr Martens

Every July when all those weather records are broken (e.g. hottest July EVER, driest month on record etc etc) I look into my wardrobe and think 'what in earth did I wear last summer?!' I'm probably one of the worst at handling the sunshine. On a beach I will sit under an umbrella and read a book, at a picnic I will suggest sitting under a tree and as the temperature rose last week my boyfriend brought up the fact that I had said either 'I'm too hot' or 'the heat is unbearable' approximately once every ten minutes throughout the day. All I can say is that I wouldn't handle emigrating to Australia at all well!

Last week, in a desperate attempt to keep cool whilst remaining appropriately dressed, I wore this loose fitting, floaty skirt with this sleeveless black crop top (both from Oxfam). I stuck with this outfit as the temperature remained high and it saw me comfortably through cocktail happy hours, lunch dates, sewing sessions and last minute necessity packing for my holiday. I will be in Sri Lanka as this post goes live. I will let you know how I handle the heat... :)

Insta-Update #2

A while ago I posted my first Insta-Update. I am a big Instagram fan as it's so easy to snap and upload those little moments in life which could be easily overlooked on this blog. This year I have completed the first year of my Theatrical Costume course so there have been a few pictures of Georgian dresses (worn when talking on an iPhone - naturally) and have run the London Marathon which is where I got my favourite sticker (bottom right hand corner). Instagram is also the first place I excitedly post about my favourite charity shop/vintage buys and spend hours browsing through the accounts of my favourite fashion bloggers and through pictures of umm, food. It's a dangerous ol' place :)

Camouflaged in a Charity Shop Dress

Dress: The British Heart Foundation Charity Shop, Bag: Oxfam, Boots*: Shoe Zone, Socks: Topshop

I featured this British Heart Foundation not too long ago (here) but I thought it was okay that I posted it again because I have been wearing it a lot! It's so comfy, I love the shape of the dress and it has pockets so it's a winner all round. The British Heart Foundation have an eBay shop  on which 100% of profits go to the foundation which I think is bloomin' brilliant. After a browse on the shop I can confirm it's worth a virtual visit. With vintage skirts for a fiver (almost rude not too) to Birkenstocks there's something for everyone over here. Since all the proceeds go to charity it's guilt-free internet shopping at it's best.

Have you bought any charity shop goodness lately? If so, I would love to hear about them because, well, it's my favourite thing to talk about - as you may have noticed!

One High-Street Item: 4 Charity Shop Looks

Charity Shop Blog
The Denim Shorts

A while back a friend and I were discussing why she doesn't enjoy shopping in charity shops (which is obz a favourite pastime of mine). She said that she finds high-street shops so much easier/fuss-free as they display their items neatly in a window display/section of the shop as part of a whole outfit.

Whenever I'm browsing in treasure shops (that's a charity shop) I almost always pick up items and think two things. One, 'this would look brilliant with a tan'. Two, 'this would go perfectly with a pair of denim cut-offs'. Since I only have a tan for around three weeks of the year (if I'm lucky) I should probably quit thinking the first of these thoughts. However, the second thought is just fine! I think you can pair so many charity shop items with denim cut-offs and be suitably summer ready so here are a few of my favourite recent charity shop purchases and how I have styled them with my denim shorts.

The Kimono Dupe

I've done this before and I'll do it again. Kimono's can be a fair few quid so charity shop duplicates are perfect. I picked up this button down dress a few weeks ago in Oxfam and, as well as wearing it as a dress, I have also been wearing it open with a high-neck black t-shirt (also Oxfam), black denim cut-offs and a big ol' stack of rings. Not only does this kimono dupe stop unnecessary sunburn, it also prevents that plastic chair sticking to your legs and leaving a print on the back of legs which happens too often for my liking when denim short wearing.

The One with the Shirt

I have purchased more shirts from charity shops than I have any other item of clothing. I wear shirts with everything from a big jumper and boots for those pesky cooler days (which are almost impossible to imagine as I sit here eating ice-cubes in a desperate attempt to cool down) to denim shorts for these bloomin' baking summer days. I picked this M&S shirt up from my local Oxfam a few weeks ago and I kinda love it a lot already. I love that it is sheer but in a dark, fairly grungy fabric. The lipstick I have been wearing it is a deep red colour called Wicked from Topshop. I have also been piling on the rings when wearing this shirt because - well, I just love too many rings :)

That 90's Blazer

Colourful, light and vintage inspired. This blazer is the perfect cover-up to throw over and jazz up even the simplest of outfits. I have worn it a lot over my staple outfit of an Oxfam shirt and denim cut-offs but I also don't think you can go wrong when chucking this blazer on over dresses/skirts or with trousers - versatility at it's best :) I love to wear this particular outfit with the biggest hooped earrings and my go-to red lipstick for a good ol' natter over drinks with friends on a beautiful summer evening.

The Alternative Party Outfit

With the days currently warm and the evenings light I have been enjoying a few nights out with friends and cocktails. This jumper/sleeveless roll-neck combo has been perfect for such evenings. This outfit if the perfect alternative 'night-out' outfit for those who are less fond of the flowery summer dress. The jumper is lightweight and sparkly so it's my absolute favourite for this super-duper heatwave we've been experiencing!
